Cub Scout Pack 3059, chartered to First Presbyterian Church in Lawrence, had its annual Pinewood Derby on Jan. 31 at the church.

Pack winners were Caelan Golledge, first; Ryan Walter, second; Philip Gabler, third; and Nathan Kappelman, fourth. Brandon Botkin won a sportsmanship honor. Donovan Barr received the People’s Choice award, and Tyler Yocum-Wulfkuhle received the award for best of show.

Other Cubs who participated: Robert Girard, Ben Seybert, Corbin Robinson, Kyler Henricks, Garrett Girard, Randy Walter, Andy Freeman, Elliot Klopp, Barkley Edison, Ryan Schroeder, Matt Schrock, Dillon Schroeder, Ben Lawson, Patrick Keizer, Matthew Steacy, Adam Wangler, Adam Spurling, David Tah, Chris Sims, Drew Sheppard, Darren Rawlings, D.J. Mitchell, Madison Redner, Matthew Stalkfleet, Bryce Griffith, Joshua Seybert, Logan Applegate, Caleb Axlund, Keytha Fixico and Jerry Long.

  • Boy Scout Troop 55, chartered to Westside Presbyterian Church, went camping Jan. 31-Feb. 1 at the troop’s Scout cabin. The boys worked on their camping merit badge and rank advancement. They also honed their skills in working with leather and wood. Scouts who attended were Scott Hird, Kameron Gibler, Kiefer Gibler, Joe Vannicola, Josh Gore, Jacob Christilles, Grady Walker, David Hansen and Oliver Devlin. They were accompanied by adult leaders Deb Vannicola, Jim Peterson, Bob Gibler and Tom Gore.

This month, the troop will visit Snow Creek Ski Lodge near Weston, Mo.

  • Cub Scout Pack 3051, chartered to Pinckney School had its annual Pinewood Derby on Jan. 17 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds. The overall winner was Trevor Welcher. Gabriel Patterson took second place and Johnathan Roberts came in third.

Den winners were Devin Barber, first, Joseph Snow, second, and August Murphy-Beach, third, Tiger; Diamond Brockway, first, Dakota Zinn, second, and Austin Garner, third, Wolf; Johnathan Roberts, first, Spencer Wilson, second, and Nilo Pena, third, Bear; Trevor Welcher, first, Gabriel Patterson, second, and Calvin Abbott, third, Webelos.

The Best Craftsmanship award went to Joseph Snow. Calvin Abbott won awards for best use of color and Most Unique. Dakota Zinn received the Most Realistic award, and Jordan Root received the Best Lead Wedge honor.
