Cards clip Jayhawks

? Three Lamar University pitchers combined on a three-hitter in a 3-2 baseball victory over Kansas on Friday afternoon.

The Jayhawks scored in the fourth inning when Ritchie Price walked, Ryan Baty doubled and Matt Tribble singled both runners home.

KU’s only other hit was a first-inning single by Matt Baty. All three hits were off Lamar starter Trey Rinando. Scott Vanderweg (1-0) hurled four innings of hitless relief to pick up the win in the Cardinals’ season opener. Kyle Stutes earned the save.

Lamar clubbed 14 hits against KU starter Ryan Knippschild (1-1) and five relievers.

Kansas (7-3) is scheduled to meet UT-Pan American at 5 p.m. today and Sam Houston State at 11 a.m. Sunday.
