Griffitts services

Mr. Griffitts died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born Sept. 26, 1929, near Ozawkie, the son of James Wallace and Grace Elizabeth Hoff Griffitts. He attended Ozawkie schools and graduated in 1947 from Ozawkie High School.

Mr. Griffitts served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 in the Korean War. He was in the Military Police and Signal Corps and guarded prisoners of war on Koje-Do Island. He later was a farmer and stockman and lived in the Ozawkie and Oskaloosa area most of his life.

He was a life member of American Legion Post No. 225 in Ozawkie and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10815 in Meriden. He was a member of Lucky Spur Saddle Club and Kansas State Horse Show circuit. He was a charter member of Oskaloosa Lions Club and served on the Oskaloosa City Council.

He married Patti Nutsch Schropp, who survives, of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Kim, Oskaloosa, and Scott, Ozawkie; a daughter, Candace Braksick, McLouth; three sisters, Eileen Bennett, Littleton, Colo., Elaine Lindenman, Kansas City, Kan., and Audrey Coghlin, Chicago; a brother, Alvin, Alaska; and six grandchildren.

Family will receive friends after services Saturday at the church.
