McGarity Earns Gold: Brendan McGarity of Kansas School of Gymnastics won the Class 5 all-around at Sunday’s Lawrence Gymnastics Academy meet. KSG’s Miller Wolf and Akram Laytimi earned third places at Level 7. Other KSG competitors were Landon Noll, Noel Fisher, Eddie Wilson, Nathan Shobe, Morgan Rego and Worth Singles-Smith.

  • Rego Tops Pack: Megan Rego of Kansas School of Gymnastics won a Level 5 all-around at Sunday’s Lawrence Gymnastics Academy meet. KSG’s Madeline Wilson earned an all-around silver medal and Amber Weeks a bronze. Erin Mayer and Jindalae Suh posted fourth places and Brooke Leslie a seventh place.

  • Wedd, Staff to Speak: Lawrence High football coach Dirk Wedd and his staff will be speakers at the Frank Glazier Football Clinic Friday and Saturday in Kansas City, Mo.

  • Gold for Sakumura: Lawrence Gymnastic Academy’s Ashley Sakumura earned a Level 8 all-around title and teammates Jessica Williams and Amelia Firns-Hubert picked up silver medals at the LGA meet. Sarah Athey had a fifth. Also, the LGA Level 8 team finished second at the Jewell’s Invitational Jan. 23 in Stilwell. Firns-Hubert had a third in all-around and Sakumura a fourth.

  • Bowers Wins All-Around: Kelcy Bowers of Lawrence Gymnastics Academy won a Level 7 gold medal in the all-around at the LGA meet. Other all-around placings by LGA competitors at Level 7 were Dianna Torgerson, second; Lexi Gonzales, fourth; and Rachael Schaffer, fifth.

  • LJWC Winners: Skyler Countess and Andy Jones of Lawrence Junior Wrestling Club earned first places at a meet Saturday in Wamego. Thirds went to LJWC’s Mike Wagner, Nikki Wagner and Cortney Wagner. Sunday at a meet in Osawatomie, LJWC’s Dusty Morris, Dylan Housworth and Misty Hayes were winners. Amanda Morris, Devan Probst and Jones collected silver medals and Brianna Hayes had a third place.

  • Spangler Honored: Ron Spangler of Kaw Valley Soccer Assn. has been nominated for the Volunteer of the Year Award given by the Kansas State Youth Soccer Assn. Also, KVSA has extended its league deadlines to Feb. 20.

  • Bregman Titlist: Scott Bregman of Lawrence Gymnastics Academy won a Class 1 all-around title at the LGA meet. Other LGA competitors were Nick Lutz, Jake Sakumura, Elliot Yochim, Charlie Arnold, Tanner Smith and Taylor Smith.
