Dorothy Wiechman

? Services for Dorothy Wiechman, 97, Lee’s Summit, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Lee’s Summit. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence, Kan.

Mrs. Wiechman died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at John Knox Village Care Center in Lee’s Summit.

She was born April 25, 1906, in Perry, Okla., the daughter of the Rev. Walter and Emma Cook. She graduated from Kansas University in 1954 with a bachelor’s degree in education. She lived much of her life in Lawrence before she moved to Lee’s Summit in 1976.

Mrs. Wiechman taught in Kansas elementary schools for 27 years. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lawrence and a charter member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Lee’s Summit.

She married Walt Wiechman on Aug. 28, 1929, in Rader. He died in 1991. A son, Ralph Wiechman, also died earlier.

Survivors include a daughter, Mildred Nielsen, Sandy, Utah; two sisters, Paula Hamilton and Leona Froggatt; three grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday at Beautiful Savior Church.

The family suggests memorials to the church, 615 S.E. Todd George Road, Lee’s Summit, MO 64063.
