Baylor blasts Montana St.

? A long Christmas break didn’t faze Baylor coach Kim Mulkey-Robertson and her No. 3 Bears.

After being off since Dec. 19, Baylor (10-1) returned to action with a 92-47 victory over Montana State (6-4) on Wednesday. It was the Bears’ last nonconference game.

“There will not be any more games like this, and we know it,” Mulkey-Robertson said. “It was a good game for everybody to feel good, but nonconference is over. I worry a little bit that we still have a week before Big 12 play, but we’ll take it little by little.”

Sophia Young scored 19 points to lead Baylor, connecting on nine of 12 shots from the field.

“Over the Christmas break, I worked on my jump shots,” Young said. “From now on, everybody will be doubling down, and I knew I needed to work on taking shots from outside.”

The Bears shot 63 percent (19-of-30) in the first half and finished 35-of-60.

“We knew Baylor’s size and athleticism would be a problem,” Montana State coach Greg Kudrna said. “We started out in a zone, and they shot us right out of it. We were hoping they wouldn’t shoot well coming off Christmas break, and we would, but it went backwards.”

Kati Burrows led Montana State with 19 points.
