‘Tis the season for movies and five new releases enter area theaters this week. Martin Scorsese’s biopic “The Aviator” comes out gunning for Oscar’s. Leonardo DiCaprio takes on the role of eccentric millionaire Howard Hughes, focusing on the early years from his 1930’s production of “Hell’s Angels” to the 1947 flight of the Spruce Goose.

Bill Murray portrays a famous oceanographer on a quest to hunt down the Jaguar Shark that ate his seafaring partner in “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.” The new hipster comedy comes from “Rushmore” filmmaker Wes Anderson.

The animated characters from Bill Cosby’s old cartoon series literally walk out from the TV into the real world in “Fat Albert.” Hey, hey, hey… huh?

It’s not the holidays without a sequel and “Meet the Fockers” brings some new blood to this “Meet the Parents” follow-up. Dustin Hoffman and Barbara Streisand portray Ben Stiller’s outrageously liberal parents who can’t help but clash with the repressive conservatism of his future in-laws.

And finally, nothing says Christmas time like a horror movie about children being abducted by ghostly forces. Dimension Films is finally dusting off the two-year-old “Darkness,” about a family who moves into a creepy old house in the Spanish countryside.

Ho, ho, ho. I’m Jon Niccum with Screen Scene.
