Temperatures in the 50s expected for weekend

If you like your weather cold and dreary, stay in bed this weekend — sunny skies, followed by warmer temperatures are expected through Sunday in Lawrence, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“It’s just a beautiful morning out there,” Schack said. “Get out there and enjoy all the blue skies.”

At 8:45 a.m., it was still cold in the Lawrence area, with the temperature at 23 and the windchill at 18. However, mostly sunny skies — with a few mid-level clouds rolling through this morning — were expected to send the temperatures up to a high of 49 today. And even warmer weather is on the way for the weekend.

“We bump up those temperatures about 10 degrees by Saturday afternoon,” Schack said.

Saturday’s morning low will be 26, with the high reaching 58 by Saturday afternoon, she said. Winds will be from the southwest, 10 to 15 mph.

Sunday’s morning low will be 26, with the high reaching 52 on Sunday afternoon, Schack said.

“We’ll see plenty of clouds arrive by Sunday afternoon,” she said. The best chance of rain for the weekend will be Sunday afternoon.

Monday’s morning low will be 35, with the high reaching 47 on Monday afternoon. Skies will be cloudy, with a chance for showers on Monday night, she said.
