Burlingame ? Seabury Academy’s girls basketball squad appeared in midseason form to coach Nick Taylor in its opening 34-14 victory over Kansas School for the Deaf on Thursday night in the Burlingame Tournament.

“We looked really good. We had 32 minutes of pure hustle,” Taylor said. “They really worked hard. The defensive pressure was really good, and we shot the ball well. They gave me everything they had.”

Seabury raced to leads of 14-2 after one quarter and 18-3 at halftime. Laura Frizell led Seabury with 18 points, Laura Hoffman and Lane Frizell contributed six apiece, and Linaya Newstrom scored four.

Seabury will play Williamsburg at 7:30 tonight in Burlingame, and will meet Burlingame at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Burlingame — Seabury’s boys didn’t fare as well in their season opener, falling to Kansas School for the Deaf.

Grayson Dillon led Seabury with 13 points, and Matt Parker added 10.

“It was a typical first game,” Seabury coach Marcus Heckman said. “We’re kind of a number of new faces trying to learn what it’s like playing at the varsity level.”

“At the same time, I saw a lot of bright spots. I am encouraged. I’m not too bent out of shape, because that’s how it goes.”

Senior Steven King added 9 rebounds for the Seahawks (0-1).

“He’s a tough kid,” Heckman said. “He does the little things.”

Seabury will play Williamsburg at 6 p.m. today, then play Burlingame at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
