Police searching for credit union robber

Lawrence police were searching this afternoon for an armed man who robbed a local credit union a few blocks west of Lawrence’s downtown just after 11:30 a.m. today.
Lawrence police spokesman Sgt. Dan Ward said a white male in his 20s, possibly armed with a gun, walked into the Midwest Regional Credit Union, 1015 W. 6th St. and demanded cash.
The robber left the credit union southbound on foot, according to Ward.

Dozens of police officers and detectives were on the scene during the noon hour. Yellow crime scene tape surrounded the credit union, which remained closed. Officers were also going door-to-door, questioning residents in the neighborhood to the south of the credit union.

Police have recovered video from surveillance cameras inside the bank, which was being reviewed this afternoon.

Police said the suspect is believed to have reddish-blond hair and a slight beard. He was wearing a yellow jacket and a stocking cap at the time of the robbery.
Anyone with information on this suspect is urged to call the CrimeStoppers tips line at 843-TIPS
