Provo, Utah Kansas University sophomore defender Holly Gault's goal 29:51 in helped the No. 17-ranked KU soccer team squeak past Brigham Young University, 1-0, on Monday afternoon at South Stadium Field.
The victory concluded a rare Saturday-Monday roadtrip, which the Jayhawks were forced to play because BYU does not play on Sundays. KU defeated UNLV, 2-0, Saturday night in Las Vegas.
Gault's goal, which came off a pass from sophomore midfielder Nicole Cauzillo, was the only break either team had in a tough defensive contest. The Jayhawks (2-0) placed just five of their 10 shots on goal, but held the Cougars to three.
KU senior goalkeeper Meghan Miller recorded her 21st career shutout and second of the season.
The Jayhawks return to action at 5 p.m. Friday against Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the KU Invitational Tournament at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex. St. Louis and Mississippi State will play the earlier match at 2:30 p.m.
