Boy Scout Troop 64, chartered to Eudora Lions Club, had its summer camp in late June at Camp Naish near Bonner Springs. They hiked, swam and worked on merit badges, such as cycling, archery and rifle shooting. Scouts who attended were A.J. Lavery, Jim Adams, David Lewis, Frank Male, Tom Stanley, Justin Male, Daniel Russell, Jonathan Morrison, Thomas McLees, Joel Morrison, Josh Hartley, Dylan Lathrom, Hawley Montgomery, Joseph Walker, Nathan Gentleman and Mark Brune. Tom Stanley was inducted into the Order of the Arrow, a national Boy Scout honor camping society. The boys were accompanied by Glenn Jackson, Scoutmaster; Karen Lewis and Jim Morrison, assistant Scoutmasters; John Scott, unit commissioner, and Duane Gentleman, Aaron Lathrom, Bill Brune and Paul Walker, troop committee members.

  • Adults and members of Boy Scout Troop 52, chartered to First United Methodist Church of Lawrence, visited Philmont Scout Ranch June 13-25 in Cimarron, N.M. The group hiked the south and central sections of the reservation, covering 62 miles in 11 days. Highlights of the trip were climbing Mount Phillips to 11,000 feet and camping for three nights at an elevation of more than 10,000 feet.

Boys from Troop 55, Troop 59, Troop 64, Troop 95 of Inola, Okla., and Venturing Crew 2691, also attended.

Boys from Troop 59 who attended were Bill Berkowitz, Cameron Hershiser, Pete Tuttle, Joel Morrison, Michael Whitten, Zeke Turner, Daniel Nichols, Justin Deaver, Tristan Wagner, Will Sharp, Paul Bireta, Henry Reiske, Brandon Mailand, Cyril Cook, Colin Kappelman, David Long and Todd Roberts. They were accompanied by Glen Sharp, Richard Bireta, Clay Kappelman, Herb Tuttle and Bruce Wagner.

  • Cub Scout Pack 3370, chartered to Deerfield School PTA, attended Webelos Residence Camp Aug. 5-7 at Camp Naish near Bonner Springs. First-year Webelos who attended were Jamie Braden, TJ Cobbs, Josh Hess, Dan Jasperson, Jordan Jump, Nathan Lassley, Nathan Porter and Callan Anderson. Phoenix DeLaConcepcion and Blake Hocking, second-year Webelos, also attended. Boy Scouts Drew Braden and Trey Anderson served as junior leaders. The group was accompanied by adult leaders Scott Braden, who served as camp Scoutmaster; Cammie Braden, Marc Jasperson, Mark Hess, Dan Porter and Thomas Cobbs.
  • Drew Braden, of Boy Scout Troop 55, chartered to Westside Presbyterian Church, served as a camp counselor-in-training during Webelos Residence Camp Aug. 8-10 at Camp Naish near Bonner Springs.
