The Lawrence TGIF Duplicate Bridge Club met Aug. 13. Ten and a half tables of competitors participated in a stratified game that followed a Mitchell movement. Don Brennaman directed the game.

Playing the North-South cards, Don Daugherty and Harry Talley swept first place in A, B and C. Sally Taylor and Klee Zaricky claimed second in A and B. Kent McCullough and Julia Brooks were third in A. Shirlie Vaughn and Mary White placed fourth in A. Virginia Eddy and Phyllis Brownlee took third in B and second in C.

Competing East-West, Paul Heitzman and Dave Piro finished first in A. Yvonne Hedges and Shirley Reese placed second in A and first in B. Jean Otney and Wanda Durbin were third in A. Mike Blumenfeld and Cathy Blumenfeld took fourth in A, second in B and first in C. Carol Ball and Betty Collier tied for third in B and second in C with Madelyn Jenks and Mona Bell.

Playing the North-South cards, Martie Hartman and Pat Burgstahler swept first place in A, B and C. Jeff Nash and Lois Jones finished second in A. Clyde Romer and Steve Phelps took third in A and second in B. Klee Zaricky and Chris Lane were fourth in A.

Sitting East-West, Donna Johnson and Dave Piro claimed first place in A. Virginia Seaver and Paul Heitzman finished second. John Hickey and Pat Radford were third. Chuck Hedges and Yvonne Hedges took fourth in A and first in B. Isle Steinhardt and Russ LaForce placed second in B and first in C.

  • The Astronomy Associates of Lawrence met Aug. 13 in Room 1001 of Malott Hall on the Kansas University campus. During the meeting the NASA-produced presentation “Ring World — Cassini-Huygens Mission to Saturn and its Moons” was shown. The next public observing session will be from 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Aug. 22 at the Campus Observing Station atop the Memorial Stadium press box.
