Wichita swimmer falls

? Caroline Bruce, a swimmer from Wichita Trinity Academy who competed against Lawrence High and Free State athletes at this year’s Kansas state meet, fell short of the finals in the 200 breaststoke Wednesday at the Olympics.

Bruce placed third in her first heat, swimming in a time of 2:27.82. She was just behind Amanda Beard’s first-place time of 2:26.61.

In the next heat, Bruce improved her time, but still finished fifth in 2:27.60 and ninth overall.
