Former Kansas coach finalist for Hall of Fame

? Former Kansas University track coach Bob Timmons is one of 37 finalists up for induction in the 2004 Class at the National Track and Field Hall of Fame, U.S. Track and Field officials announced this week.

Final balloting will be completed in September with the induction ceremony set for Dec. 3 in Beaverton, Ore.

Timmons, who retired as KU track coach in 1988, led the Jayhawks to 13 Big Eight indoor and 14 outdoor crowns. He led KU to three NCAA indoor titles and his 1970 outdoor team tied for the national title.

Other finalists include track standouts Mike Conley, Hollis Conway, Lynn Jennings, Michael Johnson and Jackie Joyner-Kersee.
