Cards’ King may be lost for season

Arizona Cardinals defensive tackle Kenny King needs surgery on his right wrist and probably will miss the season, the latest hit to a team struggling with injuries.

King, a fifth-round draft pick last season, had been battling rookie Darnell Dockett for the starting job on the right side of the defense. But he injured wrist tendons that had already been surgically repaired once this year. King missed practice Tuesday to have his injury diagnosed in Phoenix.

“He tried to have it fixed in May, I guess, or April, and it’s going to be a tough go,” coach Dennis Green said about getting King back. “Because it (rehabilitation) was four months before, and it didn’t work.”

In a move to bolster the pass rush following last week’s 23-6 exhibition loss at Minnesota, Green moved Dockett to left defensive end.

That’s where the third-round selection from Florida State will stay for the time being — Green said Dockett would play end in Saturday’s game against San Diego in Tempe, Ariz.

Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens are excited about the prospect of having Deion Sanders come out of retirement and be a part of their defensive backfield. The question now is: Will he take them up on their offer?

The Ravens have told Sanders that if he wants to end his retirement of three years, he would be welcome to join the team. Sanders is working out at his Dallas home in an effort to determine if his 37-year-old body can take the punishment of playing in the NFL.

Eagles

Rookie running back Bruce Perry underwent successful reconstructive surgery on his left shoulder Wednesday.

Bengals

Veteran running back Skip Hicks was cut by Cincinnati. Hicks played for Washington from 1998-2000 and with Tennessee in 2001. He was on Carolina’s roster in 2002, and did not play in the NFL after being waived by the Panthers before the start of last season.

Bills

Bills punter Brian Moorman hurt his left leg in practice Wednesday and did not return. Coach Mike Mularkey did not immediately know the extent of the injury, but expected an update on the player’s condition today.

Giants

New York Giants defensive end Keith Washington will be sidelined for about two weeks after breaking a bone near his eye in Friday night’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. The injury was diagnosed after Washington complained about pain around his eye during practice.

Colts

The Indianapolis Colts signed defensive tackle Derek Kennard and linebacker Pasha Jackson. Kennard, who played at Nevada-Reno last year, was originally signed as an undrafted free agent April 30 and was waived June 16. Jackson started 10 games in two seasons at Oklahoma.

Redskins

Linebacker LaVar Arrington (knee) and left tackle Chris Samuels (mild concussion) missed practice for the second straight day. After having 18 players miss Tuesday’s afternoon practice, the Redskins only had nine players sit out on Wednesday.

Titans

Tennessee tight end Erron Kinney left practice Wednesday and hyperventilating about an hour into the workout.

“It’s happened before, so we just shut him down,” coach Jeff Fisher said.
