Injury accidents

  • A deer struck a car Monday night on U.S. Highway 24-40 near Tonganoxie, sending a teenage passenger to the hospital. Samantha Rodgers, 18, McLouth, was treated for injuries at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after the deer struck the passenger side of the 1993 Ford. Rodgers was wearing a seat belt, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol report. The wreck happened about 9:35 p.m. at milepost 403 in Leavenworth County. The driver, Alecia J. Bradley, 18, Tonganoxie, wasn’t injured.

Burglaries and thefts reported

  • Someone took an unknown amount of anhydrous ammonia, a chemical commonly used to make methamphetamine, from a storage tank at Lone Pine Agricultural Services, Inc., 1557 E. 100 Road. The theft at the Lecompton business happened between Aug. 2 and Monday, according to a Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report.
  • A collection of 75 Beanie Babies valued at $525 was among the items missing in a burglary of a home in the 4500 block of Powers Street. The burglar broke two windows at the home and also took a set of knives between Aug.7 and Aug. 15. Total loss, including window damage, was $1,075.
  • Someone forged a 27-year-old Valley Falls woman’s signature on a credit-card slip to buy a $1,187 circular saw at Midway Wholesale, 2711 Oregon St., according to a report. It happened July 27.
