Boil water advisory lifted in Carbondale

Topeka — The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has lifted the boil water advisory for the for the city of Carbondale in Osage County.

The department issued the initial advisory Aug. 4 for the customers and patrons of the city of Carbondale water supply in Osage County when the city experienced mechanical failure at the water treatment plant.

Repairs have been made and tests conducted by state officials indicate no evidence of bacteria; therefore, the precautionary boil water advisory is no longer needed. In addition, all water use restrictions have been lifted.

‘Jayhawk Welcome’ for grad students Friday

The Graduate and Professional Assn. at Kansas University will play host Friday to its third annual Graduate and Professional Students Jayhawk Welcome.

The event will include an information fair from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the fourth floor of the Kansas Union and a reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Adams Alumni Center.

Chancellor Robert Hemenway and Diana Carlin, dean of the Graduate School and international programs, are scheduled to speak at the reception.

Antique tractor ride to visit Williamsburg

Ottawa — Power of the Past Antique Engine & Tractor Assn. is sponsoring an antique tractor ride Saturday.

Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. at the Franklin County Fairgrounds and costs $10. Breakfast for participants will be served until 9 a.m., and the tractor ride begins at 10 a.m.

Participants are asked to bring tractors built in 1969 or before. The tractors will travel from Ottawa to Williamsburg, where the group will have lunch, then back to Ottawa. All tractors must display a slow-moving vehicle placard. Only one person is allowed per tractor. Tractors need to have enough fuel to travel 35 miles.
