Cool temperatures hanging around

Put on your fall clothes if you’re heading out to school today — cooler than normal temperatures will stay around for a few days.

“It’s going to be very cool,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. “If you head out this morning, make sure you take those long sleeves with you.”

Temperatures were in the 50s this morning and are expected to be in the 60s through noon, with the high reaching a cool 72 degrees by 4 p.m. today, Schack said. The average high temperature for this time of year is 91.

“You thought this morning was cool? Tonight we’ll drop down even lower,” Schack said. Thursday’s morning low will be 53, she said.

Temperatures will continue to be cool Thursday, with the high reaching 73. There’s also a chance for some spotty showers Thursday afternoon, Schack said.

The cool weather continues Friday, with the morning low dropping to 52 and the high reaching 76.

Lawrence Municipal Airport recorded 0.15 of an inch of rain from Tuesday night’s thunderstorm.
