Scouting news

Two crews from Boy Scout Troop 59, chartered to the First Presbyterian Church of Lawrence, spent 10 days at the Florida National High Adventure Sea Base. One crew participated in coral reef sailing from the base on Lower Matecumbe Key to Key West and back. While sailing the Scouts participated in snorkeling and fishing. Members of the crew were John Bergman, Brendan Desetti, Tim Hagen, Grant Schenewerk, Jeff Standing and Kevin Workman. Adult leaders who accompanied them were Pat Donahue and Jon Standing.

The other crew participated in the “out island adventure.” This group kayaked to Big Munson Island, where they participated in deep sea fishing, snorkeling and kayaking. The crew also visited Key West. Members of the crew were Daniel Bergman, Nathan Desetti, Evan Hilpman, Robbie Kocour, Zachary Stites and Joe Stogsdill. They were accompanied by adult leaders Dwight Hilpman and Mark Workman.

Webelos from Cub Scout Pack 3071, chartered to the Veterans of Foreign War, attended Camp Naish July 22-24.

Second-year Webelos who participated were Eric Peterson, Kagen Fell, Marcus Sanders, Derrick Rafferty, Andrew Stussie, Faraji Kendagor, Chase Reiling, Trenton Shambaugh, Lucas Cooper and Mitchell Damron.

First-year Webelos who attended were Tyler Roste, Brandon Baston, James Hall, Gavin Fischer, Adam Hadiji, Jordon Cutell, Tyler Kottman and Cody Bruns. They were accompanied by adult leaders Michael Shambaugh, Steven Damron, Jeffrey Cutell and Grant Peterson, as well as parents Mark Kottman and Christopher Fell.

  • Boy Scout Troop 62, chartered to the Linwood Lions Club, recently canoed 53 miles on the Current River in southern Missouri. Scouts who attended were James Bishop, Joe Kelly, Paul Schlaegel, Tommy Schlaegel, Matthew Beeves and Clinton Kissinger. They were accompanied by adult leaders Dennis Kelly, Rick Schlaegel and Mike Kissinger.

  • Cub Scout Pack 3059, chartered to the First Presbyterian Church of Lawrence, had a busy July. The following Webelos attended Camp Naish July 5-7: Daniel Clausing, Robert Girard, Kyler Henricks, Patrick Keizer, Elliott Klopp, Randy Walter, Barkley Edison, Philip Gabler, Joshua Seybert and Bryce Griffith. They were accompanied by adult leaders Lee Girard, Al Henricks, Clair Keizer, Matthew Klopp, Steve Walter, Paul Gabler, Russ Seybert, Angela Seybert and Chris Griffith.

Bear Cubs attended Camp Naish July 24-25. Those who attended were Madison Redner, Darren Rawlings, Caelan Golledge, Ben Lawson, Matthew Steacy, Corbin Robinson, Brandon Botkin, Nathan Kappelman and Drew Sheppard. They were accompanied by adult leaders Roy Redner, Richard Rawlings, Chris Golledge, Bret Lawson, Stephen Steacy, Mark Robinson, Mike Botkin, Brenda Kappelman and Dick Sheppard.

The pack played host to a family swim night on July 19 at the Lawrence Outdoor Aquatic Center.
