April’s last day brings showers

Crackling and booming, a thunderstorm rolled into Lawrence shortly after 6 this morning, signaling the last of this year’s April showers.

Drivers can expect to run into periods of rain as they go through their daily commutes, said Matt Jacobs, 6News meteorologist.

“The windshield wipers will be going as you’re heading to work and heading home from work,” Jacobs said.

Showers will continue sporadically through the day, bringing a half inch to an inch of rain. The high will reach 60.

“Severe weather will be down toward Oklahoma. We’re just going to pick up some beneficial rainfall,” he said. April had been a little below average for rainfall.

Thunderstorms are also likely tonight, and there’s a chance of rain Saturday morning. The morning low will be 44, with north winds 10 to 20 mph.

“The good news is that the rain is moving out on the weekend,” Jacobs said. He said there could be some sunshine on Saturday afternoon as the clouds begin to move out.

Saturday’s high will be 63, with winds 10 to 15 mph.

Sunday’s skies will be cloudy, with the morning low starting at 37, climbing to a high of 65.

Monday morning will also be cold, with the temperature starting at 36 in the morning, climbing to 70 by midday.
