Sertoma sponsoring barbecue cookoff

Get your rib bib and your tastebuds ready.

The Lawrence Sertoma club is sponsoring the Sertoma 48 Bar BQ, the sixth annual state championship barbecue cook-off, May 7 and 8 at Broken Arrow Park, 31st and Louisiana street.

The event is called Sertoma 48 Bar BQ because 48 teams in 48 categories are competing for $4,800 in prize money.

The public is invited, at a cost of $5 per person, to taste samples from the teams from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 8. The public then votes for their favorite cooking team.

The winner goes on to compete at the American Royal.

Money raised from the event will stay in Douglas County to be used for a variety of civic projects.

An all-you-can-eat pancake feed will begin at 7 a.m. on Saturday, May 8, at the park.
