Jayhawks to meet SMS

Springfield, Mo. — Kansas University’s tail-spinning baseball team will try to stop the bleeding when it meets Southwest Missouri State tonight. Game time is 7 p.m. at the Bears’ new 8,000-seat Hammons Field.

Kansas has dropped six straight games and 12 of its last 14. The Jayhawks are in ninth place in the Big 12 Conference, a half-game ahead of last-place Kansas State. KU is 24-22-1 overall and 2-12 in the Big 12.

The Bears, 21-19 overall, have an 11-8 record in the Missouri Valley Conference and stand in third place behind Wichita State and Creighton.

KU men’s golf fifth at Big 12 championship

Hutchinson — Kansas University’s No. 24-ranked men’s golf squad is in good position after the first day of the Big 12 Conference Championship at Prairie Dunes Country Club.

The Jayhawks opened with a two-round total of 592 on the par-70 layout. KU currently sits in fifth place behind leaders Texas and Oklahoma State (577 each), Kansas State (579) and Oklahoma (587).

Junior Andrew Price was the top KU finisher after the first day, carding a two-round total of 147 for a tie for 14th place.

The final round begins at 8 a.m. today.
