Steady rain adds up to less than half an inch

Rainfall over the weekend was steady but slight, according to National Weather Service reports.

The Weather Service reported .21 of an inch of rain Saturday through 9:30 p.m. at the Lawrence Municipal Airport. The rain ended about 3 p.m., the Weather Service reported.

Rainfall Friday and Saturday combined for a total of .45 of an inch at the airport, according to the report.

6News Skyhawk Ken Blair reported receiving .21 of an inch Friday and .47 of an inch Saturday at his home on 19th Street Terrace.

The weather service predicts dry weather and warmer temperatures this week, with a slight chance of showers Thursday.

Presentation looks at historic Kansas

Cowboys, Indians, wagon trails and buffalo hunters will be the topics of discussion at the lecture, “Life Before Territory: 1800 to 1854” at the Watkins Community Museum of History, 1047 Mass.

Randy Thies, archaeologist with the Kansas State Historical Society, will separate truth from myth about historic Kansas at 3 p.m. today. He will share stories of people who lived in the half-century between the Louisiana Purchase and the passage of territorial status and use slides.

EU expansion subject of KU conference

Expansion of the European Union will be the focus of a conference this week at Kansas University.

The conference, “Europe at the crossroads: what EU enlargement means for you,” will focus on possible effects on the United States after the EU expands Saturday.

The event kicks off at 4 p.m. Monday with a discussion at the KU Edwards Campus in Overland Park involving international business leaders.

It continues at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Kansas Union with a speech by Peter Horvath of the Hungarian Embassy in Washington, D.C., followed by a 3 p.m. roundtable.

The conference concludes with a presentation at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Max Kade Center by Thomas Swick, a travel author.

All sessions are free and open to the public.
