Precious Earth

To the editor:

Last Saturday morning, my 3-year-old son woke up early and asked excitedly, “Is today the Earth Day Parade?” He could hardly wait for it to start. It’s not often that kids can actually be in a parade! Over 200 parade participants marched down Massachusetts Street to celebrate Earth Day and to demonstrate a commitment to a clean and healthy environment. Many more people watched from the sidewalks as the various Earth-inspired costumes, hybrid vehicles and other displays made their way toward South Park. After the parade, there were numerous fun and educational activities for all ages at the park.

It’s a shame the Journal-World did not cover these events, as they represent the dedicated efforts of city staff, KU students and many others. Congratulations and thank you to all those who worked so hard to make them a success. Happy Earth Day!
