Former Kansas University center Jeff Graves, who scored 10 points in the first two games of the USBL season with the Kansas Cagerz, may be finished as a member of the team.

The Cagerz on Wednesday placed the 6-foot-9 former Kansas University center on injured reserve after he missed practice.

“He was a no-show,” Cagerz player personnel director Jeff Wells told the Salina Journal. “We don’t know why. We’ve heard from a third party that he was going to Lawrence to see the doctor.”

“He’ll stay (on injured reserve) until we decide to take him off, if we do,” he said. “We’ll play with the nine (players) we have and see what happens.”

Wells told the Salina Journal officials scheduled a doctor’s appointment for Graves on Tuesday in Salina, but he failed to show up.

“We had a tremendous practice yesterday, all 10 guys that were there,” coach Francis Flax told the Journal. “I told them ‘If you can’t get out and double team the high pick and roll because of injury you need to go on (injured reserve).’ I told this to the group, not Jeff Graves.

“I said, ‘If you can’t get up and defend the high pick and roll because you’re lazy or because you don’t have the heart to do it, then you need to go on waivers,”’ Flax added.

“The ball’s in his court,” Wells said, “but it always has been. We provided the stage, and it’s up to him to perform.”

Graves told the Journal-World recently he needs arthroscopic knee surgery.
