Eller services

Services for Dorothy Giesy Eller, 91, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Eller died Monday, April 12, 2004, at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community.

She was born Aug. 12, 1912, in Syracuse, the daughter of Clifford and Veta Sherwood Giesy. She moved to Coffey County in 1913. She graduated from Burlington High School and attended Emporia State Teacher’s College. She moved to Lawrence in 1936.

Mrs. Eller taught at Strawn Country School in Coffey County for five years. She then worked at the Jay Shoppe in Lawrence for 20 years until she retired in 1974. She volunteered at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital gift shop for a number of years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Lawrence Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was a past member of University Bridge Club and a past president of La Sertoma Club.

She married Leo Laurence Eller on July 5, 1936, in Burlington. He died Sept. 23, 1982.

Survivors include a son, Neal Eller, Lawrence; a daughter, Carol Eller McCaffrey, Lawrence; a foster daughter, Lavell Sherrill, Mounds, Okla.; six grandchildren; two foster grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three foster great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to Hospice Care in Douglas County, the church or Lawrence Humane Society, sent in care of the funeral home.
