Faces and places

  • Carol Hayden, Lawrence, recently became a consultant for Tastefully Simple, a national direct sales company based in Alexandria, Minn. As a consultant, Hayden conducts in-home presentations of gourmet foods.
  • Eunice Ruttinger has been named director of adult services at the Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center, Lawrence. She will be responsible for adult outpatient and community support services. During the past 13 years, she has served as executive director of Shawnee Community Mental Health Center in Topeka, director of Community Mental Health at SRS, and most recently administrator of the Jefferson County Clinic for the Guidance Center. She has received a master’s degree in social work from Kansas University.
  • Beth Ankerholz has been named information technology director for the Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center. She will be responsible for all information systems. Ankerholz most recently served as the center’s director of administrative services. She has been employed at Bert Nash since 1989.
  • Chris Atkeisson, Lawrence, recently joined First United Mortgage, 2601 W. Sixth St., as a loan officer. He is licensed to handle mortgage loans in Kansas and Missouri. Before entering the mortgage industry, he worked for 28 years in the automotive field.
  • Copy Co has promoted Ryan Irwin to account representative. He will be responsible for maintaining existing accounts and establishing new ones. Irwin will take over the company’s marketing efforts. Irwin worked four years as production assistant while working on his degree in strategic communications at Kansas University.
  • Chris Earl, of Stephens Real Estate in Lawrence, has received the certified residential specialist designation by the Council of Residential Specialists, the largest nonprofit affiliate of the National Association of Realtors.
  • Dillons has promoted Amanda Baker to customer service manager for the Dillons store at 1740 Mass. Baker was hired in 2001 as a deli clerk. She most recently was a customer service clerk.
  • Tena Santaularia, Pioneer Worldwide, was an instructor for an all-day Wedding Extravaganza in Oklahoma City. The event was a workshop for event decorators and planners in the Oklahoma and Texas region. Santaularia is an industry educator for Pioneer and is a freelance decorator in the Lawrence area.

Honors and awards

  • Ryan Catlin, a Lawrence investment representative for Edward Jones, was one of 30 representatives honored at a business management forum March 29-31 in St. Louis. Catlin was recognized for his business management skills.
  • Dan Rood Design, Lawrence, announces that two of its logos were selected from thousands of international entries to be included in the prestigious LogoLounge II collection of logos. The logos selected were created by Dan Rood for Raviant Technologies, Overland Park, and ConciAir, an online reservation system for private airplanes owned by Signature Flight Support. Rood leads the design team at Athenix Solutions, a Lawrence-based technology and Web development firm. LogoLounge 11 will be published in early 2005 by Rockport Publishers.
  • Landfill division manager Charlie Sedlock, of N.R. Hamm Quarries Inc., was honored March 24 at the 2004 Works Conference on recycling, composting and household hazardous waste management in Lindsborg. Sedlock was among the first inductees to the new Kansas Solid Waste Management Hall of Fame. He was honored for his efforts to design and operate one of the state’s first modern municipal solid waste landfills and to provide education and training to college students and waste facility operators across the state.

  • A conference on renewable energy will be at 1 p.m. April 29 at the Saline County Livestock and Expo Center in Salina. The conference will cover the funding opportunities under the Renewable Energy Systems and Energy Efficiency Improvement Program.   • The Central Exchange, a Kansas City organization noted for promoting leadership and community involvement for women, will sponsor the Women’s Lyceum from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May 3 at the Overland Park Convention Center, 6000 College Blvd. The keynote speaker will be Coretta Scott King, human rights activist and founder of The King Center. The luncheon speaker will be Donna Dubinsky, first president and CEO of Palm Computing and co-founder of Handspring.   • The Kansas Federation of National Association of Retired Federal Employees will celebrate its 50th anniversary at its annual convention April 18-20 in Topeka.   • The annual Hard Winter Wheat Tour through Kansas will be April 26-29. It is sponsored by the Wheat Quality Council. The tour will move through wheat producing areas of Kansas as well as southern Nebraska, eastern Colorado, and northern Oklahoma.

Participants in the tour will include grain marketers, millers, bakers and producers.

The Kansas Association of Wheat Growers urges its members and wheat producers to participate in the tour, which will provide an estimate of wheat crop production.
