Cub Scout Pack 3056, chartered to the United Methodist Church of Lecompton, had its annual Blue & Gold Banquet on March 29. The event began with a potluck supper in the church’s social hall and then moved into the sanctuary for the formal program. Curtis Harris, district executive, made a plea on behalf of Friends of Scouting, which was well-received.

The Webelo Den had a candle-lighting ceremony to commemorate the beginning of the Boy Scout Movement in England and the United States and the development of Cub Scouting in both countries. They then led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Tiger Cubs Den led the audience in a rousing version of “If You’re a Tiger Cub and You Know It.”

The final presentation was a skit by the Wolf Den, which ended with one of the Cubs bursting out of a cardboard birthday cake, symbolizing the anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America.

  • The Tribe of Mic-O-Say, an honorary camping and service society associated with Bartle Scout Reservation, Heart of America Council is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2004. The organization was founded by the late H. Roe Bartle of Kansas City.

The anniversary celebration will begin with a Tribal Roundup April 17 at Kansas City’s Municipal Auditorium. The celebration will culminate June 12 in a Tribal Feast at Bartle Scout Reservation. For more information, contact Keith Wood at kwood@cjnetworks.com.

  • Boy Scout Troop 62, chartered to the Linwood Lions Club, toured the General Motors plant on March 29 in Kansas City. Boys who attended were Ryan Ellis, Matthew Beeves, Paul Schlagel, James Bishop, Joe Kelly, Tyler Thomas, Tom Schlagel, Logan Ross, Brian Pemberton, John Hopkins, CJ King and Clinton Kissinger. They were accompanied by: Mike Kissinger, scoutmaster; Michael Ellis, Jim Bishop, Mike Pemberton, Mark Hopkins and Rick Schlagel. Matt Hopkins, brother of John Hopkins, also attended.
  • Boy Scout Troop 52, chartered to the First United Methodist Church of Lawrence, had its bi-annual Court of Honor on March 30. Curtis Harris, district executive, made a Friends of Scouting presentation. The following boys earned rank advancements: Ben Bartels, 1st Class; Chad Boyd, Scout; Peter Bray, 2nd Class; Evan Cloar, Star; Matthew Fish, Scout; Stuart Gilreath, 1st Class; Brendan Golledge, 2nd Class and 1st Class; Alek Joyce, 2nd Class and 1st Class; Stefan Kuczera, Scout; David Long, Life; Eric Long, Scout; Ian O’Connor, 2nd Class; Doug Rawlings, 2nd Class; Dominick Reiske, 1st Class; Michael Smith, 2nd Class and 1st Class; Justin Stearns, Scout; Wesley Tedlock, 2nd Class and 1st Class.
  • Junior Girl Scout Troop 611 played host to a Girl Scout Week celebration March 13 for Girls Scouts from Broken Arrow School.

The celebration included sharing favorite Girl Scout activities, studying Girl Scout uniforms and traditions, eating birthday cake and participating in a service project. The Broken Arrow troops created four “Birthday in a Bag” kits with each troop contributing supplies for a child’s birthday party. The kits were donated to Penn House.

Junior Girl Scout Troop 611 participants included Danielle Hyser, Autumn Emerson, LaShawndra Dabney, Amanda Davidson, Miriam Baird and Pauline Seifert.

Other troops that participated were Daisy Girl Scout Troop 711, three Brownie Girl Scout troops and two Junior Girl Scout troops.

Participating leaders were Mary Whitaker Davidson, Colleen Hyser, Janet Pennybaker, Debby McNemee,Trisha Jameson, Debbie Ward and Sara Kyriakos.

  • Girl Scouts and their families are invited to participate in Family Fun Friendzy, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. April 17 at Wolf Creek’s Dwight D. Eisenhower Learning Center in Burlington. The event is sponsored by Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corp., and coordinated through the Girl Scout Council of the Flint Hills.

Scouts and their families may fish at the Coffey County Lake, participate in Control Room Simulator demonstration and hike the nature trails. The event provides scouts and their families an opportunity to learn about soil, birds, rocks and being an engineer through a variety of hands-on experiments.

  • Danny Stebbins and Matthew Stapleton, both of Lawrence, are registered land surveyors who have completed the Boy Scouts of America Youth Protection Training and certification as Merit Badge Counselors. They will assist area Scouts in attaining a merit badge in surveying during April.
