KU events to honor world cultures

A series of events is scheduled next week to commemorate International Awareness Week at Kansas University.

A highlight will be the annual World Expo, from noon to 5 p.m. April 16 in the Kansas Union Ballroom. The event will feature students from more than 90 countries dressed in cultural attire, playing musical instruments and talking about their home countries.

More than 500 children are expected to attend the event.

The Festival of Nations will run from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. April 16, also in the ballroom. Students will demonstrate their native cultures through dance, music and other forms of entertainment.

Other scheduled events:

  • Flavors of the Worlds, with ethnic dishes prepared by students, 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Sunday at Ecumenical Christian Ministries, 1204 Oread Ave.
  • International Jeopardy, 5 p.m.-8 p.m. Monday in the Pine Room of the Kansas Union.
  • Game night, co-sponsored with Student Union Activities, 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday, in the Hawk’s Nest in the Kansas Union.
  • Belly dance workshop, 7:30 p.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday at ECM.
  • International fashion show, 3 p.m.-4 p.m. April 15 in the Kansas Union lobby.

All events are open to the public.
