Carjacking defendant sentenced to 14 years

Kansas City, Kan. — A man who forced a Kansas University Medical School student into her car at knifepoint earlier this year was sentenced to prison Monday for carjacking.

Paul H. Robinson, 52, Kansas City, Kan., was ordered to serve 14 years and seven months without parole in a federal prison. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Kathryn H. Vratil.

Robinson pleaded guilty Jan. 7 to one count of carjacking. He admitted that on Aug. 5, 2003, he approached a female graduate student at the medical school in Kansas City. After taking the car keys he drove the car and the student into Missouri, said U.S. Atty. Eric Melgren.

The student escaped by unlocking the passenger door and stepping out of the moving car. She suffered minor injuries in the escape, Melgren said.
