Spencer ties for first; LHS golf third

? Nathaniel Spencer tied for first, and Lawrence High’s boys golf team placed third in its season-opening meet at Brookridge Country Club.

Spencer, who opened with 13 consecutive pars and then had three straight bogeys, shot a 76, matching the scores of Olathe South’s Jordan Smith and Shawnee Mission East’s Jack Brewer.

The Lions (345) finished behind host SM South (320) and Olathe South (321).

“We were a distant third,” LHS coach Ron Commons said, “so hopefully we’ll have some people learn from this, and hopefully we’ll play better in the next tournament.”
