Calvary Temple Assembly of God

Children will receive palm leaves during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship services at Calvary Temple Assembly of God, 606 W. 29th St. Terrace.

This is the last week to sign up for the Women of Faith Conference, “The Irrepressible Hope.” It will be June 4-5 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Cost of the interdenominational conference is $69 per person, plus expenses for meals and lodging. Transportation is provided.

Centenary United Methodist Church

A Tenebrae service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday in the sanctuary of Centenary United Methodist Church, 245 N. Fourth St.

The service will feature music by the chancel choir under the direction of Emily Chaney, narrative and Scripture readings, and Holy Communion.

Central United Methodist Church

Central United Methodist Church, 1501 Mass., will have Palm Sunday worship services at 10:45 a.m. Sunday. Easter worship services will be at 10:45 a.m. April 11. Services are open to the community.

Clinton Parkway Assembly of God

The 7 p.m. Wednesday Bible study will focus on Esther.

Laura Petrie will lead the “Purpose Driven Life” Study at 7 p.m. Mondays and 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays at the church.

Jeffrey D. Miller will present “Jesus in the Passover Seder” from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. April 10 in the assembly activity center.

Cost is $5 per person and includes a full meal. Event is open to the public.

Easter services will be at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. April 11.

Corpus Christi Catholic Church

Adoration in church will be from 7:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday.

Healing Mass will be at 12:10 p.m. Wednesday.

Holy Mass will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday with Adoration following until midnight.

Morning prayer is at 8:30 a.m. Friday. Stations of the Cross is at 3 p.m., and there will be a 7:30 p.m. Good Friday service.

Morning prayer will be at 8:30 p.m. April 10, with an 8:30 p.m. Easter Vigil.

Easter Sunday Masses will be at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. April 11.

First Christian Church

A special musical presentation featuring piano, organ, handbells and the chancel choir will be at the 8:55 a.m. Palm Sunday worship service at First Christian Church, 1000 Ky.

The congregation will participate during Holy Week in praying for people across Lawrence.

Contemporary service starts at 11 a.m. Sunday.

First Church of the Nazarene

Community is invited to attend an Easter musical drama, “Good News from a Grave,” presented at 10:15 a.m. Sunday at First Church of the Nazarene, 1470 N. 1000 Road.

The community’s children are invited to attend an Easter egg hunt, craft activity and snack time April 10 at the church. The Easter egg hunt for children under 3 will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., and the egg hunt for children from 4 years old through sixth grade will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

First Presbyterian Church

Palm Sunday services are 8 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 2415 Clinton Parkway.

Children and youth are invited to participate in a palm parade at each service. Please arrive about 10 minutes early to receive palms.

There will be a 7 p.m. Good Friday worship service in the sanctuary.

The church has a new interim pastor, the Rev. Raymond J. Fancher, who will preach to the congregation for the first time at the 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Easter Sunday services.

First United Methodist Church

Worshippers will wave palm branches, sing hosannas with the children’s choir and hear the Passion story at the 8:30 a.m., 9:40 a.m. and 11 a.m. Palm Sunday worship services at First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt.

The church will have a service of healing and Communion at 7 p.m. Holy Thursday.

The youth will provide a multimedia journey at 7 p.m. Good Friday in Brady Hall.

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church

Celebration of the Passion featuring a procession of palms will be at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2211 Inverness Drive. A potluck dinner will follow in the fellowship hall.

There will be a 7 p.m. Maundy Thursday service including washing of the feet, Communion and stripping of the altar.

The Way of the Cross from the “This Far by Faith” African-American hymnal will be the basis for the 7 p.m. Good Friday service.

Easter Sunday services will be at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. April 11. Theme of the sunrise and Resurrection services is “God’s Embrace: Promise of New Life” and will use the “Now the Feast and Celebration” service order.

An Easter breakfast buffet will be served from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. April 11 in the fellowship hall.

Immanuel Lutheran Church & University Student Center

A traditional worship service will be at 8:30 a.m., and a contemporary service at 11 a.m., Palm Sunday at Immanuel Lutheran Church & University Student Center, 2104 W. 15th St.

There will be a 7:30 p.m. Maundy Thursday Communion service. Theme will be “The Road to Gesthemane,” from the Lenten series titled “This Lenten Road.”

Senior Leaguers will have an Easter egg hunt at 9 a.m. Friday for the children of the Immanuel Lutheran Childhood Center.

A noon worship service will be held Good Friday. A presentation of Handel’s “Behold the Lamb of God” from “The Messiah” will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Breakfast will be served by the youth group from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Easter Sunday. Regular services will be at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Lawrence Wesleyan Church

The Rev. Nate Rovenstine will summarize the “Sermon on the Mount” series with the sermon “Love and the Kingdom” at Lawrence Wesleyan Church, 3705 Clinton Parkway.

There will be a “Time Out for Kids” during the 10:45 a.m. Palm Sunday service, featuring a special performance.

Morning Star Christian Church

“Straight-Up Beautiful,” a one-day conference for girls in seventh through 12th grades will be from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 17 at Morning Star Christian Church, 998 N. 1771 Road.

Featured speaker will be Genelle Frenoy, a model for Abercrombie & Fitch. She will talk about how she discovered the way to truly “live beautiful.”

Other topics to be discussed: how to fulfill your dreams and how to have real friendships.

Perry Christian Church

A 100th anniversary celebration for Perry Christian Church will be April 24-25.

Event will start at 3 p.m. April 24 with an old-time tent meeting. Tent will be at 603 E. Front St. The meeting will feature singing, preaching, special music and church history and memorabilia.

There will be circuit-riding preachers, singing and participation by area youth groups at 7 p.m. April 24.

A worship service will be at 9:30 a.m. April 25.

Celebration will conclude with a re-dedication service for the next 100 years of ministry at the church.

Plymouth Congregational Church

Children will receive palms and participate in a palm procession around the church at the 9:30 a.m. traditional Palm Sunday service at Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt. Contemporary service will be at 11:15 a.m.

Plymouth handbell choirs will have a bake sale between the Sunday services in the Mayflower Room. Proceeds support the handbell program.

As part of the Plymouth’s ongoing sesquicentennial celebration, the fifth-and sixth-graders will meet at 4 p.m. Sunday to participate in a scavenger hunt featuring the church’s history.

River of Fire Church

Wayne Anderson and Rick Wilson will minister at 7 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday at River of Fire Church.

Meetings will take place Sunday at Langston Hughes Elementary School, 1101 George Williams Way, and Monday through Wednesday at the Lawrence Christian Center, 1525 W. Sixth St.

Anderson is the founder, and Wilson serves on the board, of the International Apostolic Ministries, which has established a growing movement toward church reformation and church planting around the world.

St. James AME Church

St. James AME Church, 647 Maple, will present “Songs in the Key of Life” at 3 p.m. Sunday.

The program will include soloists Sabrina Evans, Kay Meblen and Latoya Fleming, as well as choirs from the Lawrence area.

St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church

A family “Time to Grow” tailgate party will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 5700 W. Sixth St. Event will feature a moonwalk, games, pizza and ice cream.

Theme for Palm Sunday is “How to Rebound from the Struggles We Face.” Children will have special, pre-Easter activities during the 9 a.m. Sunday service.

Choir will give a special performance of Faure’s “Requiem” at the 10:45 a.m. Sunday service.

Youth group will share a Seder meal after the 5:30 p.m. Sunday service.

There will be an agape meal with foot washing at 6 p.m. Maundy Thursday; there will also be a special agape meal for children at the same time. Reservations are required.

There will be worship services at noon and 6 p.m. Good Friday.

Trinity Episcopal Church

Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt., will have worship services at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Palm Sunday.

The 10:30 a.m. service will begin outside in the Cloisters with the Liturgy of the Palms and an anthem by the children’s chorister choir. After the liturgy, the congregation will process into the church, led by the adult and children’s choirs.

Holy Week services include Tenebrae, a service of shadows, at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the nave.

The 6 p.m. Maundy Thursday service will begin in the nave and be followed by a supper in the parish hall.

Stations of the Cross will be at noon Good Friday, with 7 p.m. Good Friday liturgy in the nave.

Trinity Lutheran Church

Holy Week services open with Holy Communion and blessing of the palms at the 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Palm Sunday services at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1245 N.H.

During the 9:45 a.m. Sunday education hour, members of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church will join for fellowship at Trinity Lutheran, with the blessing of the palms in South Park, and processions to the respective churches, beginning at 10:40 a.m.

During Holy Week, the church will also participate in the ecumenical noon services at First Christian Church, 1000 Ky. Members of Trinity Lutheran and St. John will provide the lunch after the Wednesday service. Marie Rubis Bauer, minister of worship and music, will lead the noon Friday Tenebrae service with choir members from the various churches.

There will be a 7 p.m. Good Friday Tenebrae service with the cantata “The Seven Words of Christ from the Cross” by Heinrich Schuetz.

Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence

A spiritual celebration, “LRP Survey Review: Planning the Future of the Spiritual Celebration,” will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Sunday at the Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence, 1263 N. 1100 Road.

Chuck Frantz will present a program, “The UU Office at the UN,” from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Sunday, followed by time for coffee and fellowship from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Unity Church of Lawrence

The Rev. Steve Colladay’s message at the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Palm Sunday worship services at Unity Church of Lawrence, Ninth and Madeline streets, will be “Palm Sunday Courage.”

The Unity Art Gallery will have a reception for “My First Retrospective,” a one-woman show presenting the work of Barbara Geyer, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Singer/songwriter Natalie Cox will perform, and the Unity bookstore will offer special selected items for sale.

University Community of Christ

World Conference continues through Sunday at the Community of Christ World Headquarters in Independence, Mo. “Live Christ’s Way!” is the theme.

Priesthood meeting is scheduled for 8 a.m. Sunday at the church, 1900 University Drive. The Rev. Avanelle Mercer will preside over the monthly meeting.

Adult class will continue to work from the “Power & Light” study series. Sunday school is from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. each week.

Elder Ken Flanders will deliver the Passion Sunday sermon, “Remember Me,” at the 10 a.m. worship service. Communion will also be served.

West Side Presbyterian Church

Combined adult and children’s choirs of West Side Presbyterian Church, 1024 Kasold Drive, will perform “Sing Hosanna in the Highest” as the special music at the 11 a.m. Palm Sunday worship service.

Last and final session of the Lenten study, “The Common People Heard Him Gladly,” will be at 5:30 p.m. Sunday. The Session of the church will meet at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

There will be a 7 p.m. Maundy Thursday Communion service.

Julie McGinn was elected to a one-year term as moderator of the Presbytery Youth Council of Northern Kansas. The council consists of two youth members from each Presbyterian Church in the Northern Kansas Presbytery, currently about 40 members.

Tim Burgess was appointed to his second one-year term as youth advisor delegate to the Synod of Mid-America.
