Johnson honored

Lawrence High and Free State gymnastics coach Kathy Johnson was named the state’s coach of the year by the Kansas Gymnastics Association. The KGA, which annually selects a coach as well as names all-state teams, honored Johnson after coaching both the Firebirds and Lions gymnastics teams this past fall, with Free State placing sixth at state. Under Johnson’s leadership, FSHS senior Lacey Baxter won state in the beam and placed fourth in the all-around at the state meet in November.

Free State High baseball player Travis Blankenship was misidentified as a sophomore right-handed pitcher in Wednesday’s Journal-World. He is a sophomore left-hander. His brother Tyler is a senior right-hander.
