Dorothy Young Pate

Mrs. Pate died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at her home.

She was born Jan. 8, 1919, in Wrens, Ga., the daughter of John A. and Martha Louise (McGahee) Young. She had lived in Augusta for more than 70 years before moving in 1999 to Lawrence.

Mrs. Pate was a homemaker and member of St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church in Augusta.

She married Rupert E. Pate Sr. on Jan. 1, 1935, in South Carolina. He died in 1969.

Survivors include two sons, Rupert E. Pate Jr. and John Hugh Pate, both of Lawrence; a daughter, Bernice Pate, Leavenworth; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to Hospice Care of Douglas County, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
