Naomi McCourt

Mass of Christian Burial for Naomi A. McCourt, 77, of Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. McCourt died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, at her home.

She was born July 19, 1926, in Hamlin, the daughter of Lester and Rosa (Megniot) Barnes.

She had lived in Lawrence since 1983.

Mrs. McCourt was a homemaker. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Alford-Clarke Post 852 Auxiliary.

She married Jasper R. Land on June 19, 1943. They divorced. She married Joseph B. McCourt on Aug. 19, 1983, in Lawrence. He died on Aug. 10, 2002.

Survivors include four daughters, Debra Bell, McAlester, Okla., Phyllis Engum, Green Valley, Ariz., Linda New, Lunenburg, Mass., and Raenae Bray, Lawrence; a brother, Forrest Barnes, Kansas City, Mo.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Patricia Land, and a grandson died earlier.

A parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to Hospice Care in Douglas County or to the church, sent in care of the mortuary.
