Several nationally known artists will be making appearances in Lawrence during the Downtown Friday Gallery Walk. Local artists will be on hand as well.

Painter and flutist TerryLee Whetstone, who grew up in Kansas City, Mo., and now lives in Neosho Falls, and potter/painter Victoria McKinney, of West Fork, Ark., will be at Southwest and More, 727 Mass., throughout the weekend. They will be at the gallery from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. An example of Whetstone’s work is shown below.

At Fields Gallery, 712 Mass., landscape artist Stan Herd will sign posters of his earthworks during the gallery walk, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and other artists represented in the gallery will be available to talk about their work.

Other participating galleries include the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt., Signs of Life, 722 Mass., SilverWorks and More, 715 Mass., the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 N.H., and Olive Gallery and Art Supply, 15 E. Eighth St. This is the fourth and final gallery walk of the year.

The library will feature work by the Downtown Tuesday Painters. The Olive Gallery hopes to have a new show by former Lawrence artist Travis Millard set up in time for the Friday event; the official opening reception for that show, “Go Tell it on the Dirt Mound,” will be Saturday evening.

At Signs of Life, Lawrence artist Heather Smith Jones, whose work is on view at the gallery through Oct. 18, will be on hand to discuss her paintings with visitors. Unglazed earthenware ceramic work by Jonathan Bridges will be featured at SilverWorks and More. Bridges, a Topeka High School graduate, has a ceramics degree from Alfred University and is working toward a master of fine arts at the University of Minnesota.

No special event is planned at the arts center, but the Lawrence Indian Arts Show remains on view.
