Free State drops pair

? Free State High’s volleyball team won its first match Thursday at Shawnee Mission West, but dropped its two ensuing matches.

The Firebirds defeated the host Vikings, 18-25, 25-16, 17-15; lost to Olathe North, 25-20, 21-25, 10-15; and fell to Blue Valley West, 7-25, 25-27.

“Inconsistency, mental errors and that kind of stuff is what’s killing us,” FSHS coach Nancy Hopkins said.

Free State, which fell to 7-6 overall and 4-3 in the Sunflower League, travels Saturday to the Topeka Seaman Invitational.
