Lyle Eugene Chase

? Services for Lyle Eugene Chase, 83, Chanute, will be at 10 a.m. today at Otterbein United Methodist Church in Chanute. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Chanute.

Mr. Chase died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, at Chanute Health Care Center.

He was born Feb. 18, 1920, in Decatur, Ark., the son of Clyde and Edna (Singleton) Chase. He attended schools in Pilot Point, Texas; Great Bend and Chanute.

Mr. Chase served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal and Japanese Occupation Medal. He left the military June 4, 1946, as a sergeant. He worked for Western Petro Chemical Co. for 35 years and then at Gates Rubber Co. in Iola. He retired in April 1985.

He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church for almost 50 years and held several positions, including trustee. He was also a member of Cecil J. Meeker Post No. 1654, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Chanute.

He married Mary E. Turner on April 30, 1939, in Chanute. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Ron, Parsons; two daughters, Betty Stich, Thayer, and Barbara Halverstadt, Lawrence; a sister, Pauline Matlock, Chanute; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
