Book sale needs volunteers

Library group has setup, cleanup shifts available

Volunteers are needed for the Friends of the Lawrence Public Library’s Fall 2003 Book Sale. The sale will feature more than 100,000 books, CDs and records. Money raised from the sale will help buy special books and equipment for the library, finance literacy events and help special programs. Volunteers can sign up for four-hour shifts at the following times:

Set up: noon to 8 p.m. Sept. 30 and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 1

Shelve books and clean up: 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 2; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 3; 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 4 and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 5.

Clean up: 4 p.m. until finished Oct. 7 and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 11.

The group also will need people throughout the day Oct. 8 to help take down the tent and remove tables.

Immediate volunteer needs

  • The Douglas County chapter of the American Red Cross needs office support volunteers from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. This volunteer will assist the marketing director with preparing health and safety classes, compiling records, some data entry, class scheduling, answering the telephone and client assistance.   • Heartland Medical Clinic needs people who are medically trained, such as RNs, LPNs, CNAs and other medical assistants, to check in patients, take vital statistics and work with clinic doctors in patient instruction and care. Heartland Medical Clinic, a Christian ministry, provides free medical care for uninsured patients for 10 hours a week using an entirely volunteer staff. Shifts last two to three hours, are flexible and available weekly or monthly. For information, call Amy Bertrand at 841-7297.
