Boulder, Colo. ? All week long, Washington State coaches impressed on their players a single objective.

“All we preached was: finish,” WSU coach Bill Doba said.

One week after squandering a 19-0 lead in a 29-26 overtime loss to Notre Dame, Washington State forged a lead, and then expanded on it in a 47-26 rout Saturday of No. 17 Colorado.

Sammy Moore caught a 74-yard touchdown pass and returned a kickoff 97 yards for another score as WSU used big plays to down the Buffaloes (2-1), who had five turnovers.

The Cougars (2-1), who led 23-13 at halftime, scored 24 straight points in the first 6:39 of the third quarter to build a 47-13 lead. Two of those scores came off turnovers.

Matt Kegel threw three touchdown passes for Washington State, including a 77-yarder to Scott Lunde, and cornerback Jason David returned an interception 41 yards for another TD.

No. 1 OU 52, Fresno St. 28

Norman, Okla. — Jason White threw for 338 yards and four touchdowns, and Renaldo Works ran for two more scores. The Sooners (3-0) seized control early, scoring on their first six possessions en route to a 38-0 halftime lead. Fresno State (1-2) had nearly twice as many penalty yards (80) as offensive yards (43) in the first half.

Manhattan — Darren Sproles ran for 152 yards and three touchdowns, and backup quarterback Jeff Schwinn, of McLouth, passed for 228 yards. Schwinn, a former walk-on stepping in for the injured Ell Roberson, was intercepted twice, but eventually found his range and went 17-of-26 with one touchdown pass.

No. 23 Iowa 40, ISU 21

Ames, Iowa — Iowa scored 10 points off two blocks by Sean Considine and converted two turnovers into field goals. Nate Kaeding had four field goals in all to help Iowa (3-0) end a five-game losing streak to Iowa State (2-1).

Missouri 37, E. Illinois 0

Columbia, Mo. — Zack Abron ran for two touchdowns, and Josh Hibbets blocked two punts and ran one in for a score for Missouri against error-prone Eastern Illinois. Brad Smith added two touchdown passes for Missouri, 3-0 for the first time since 1981.

OSU 42, SW Missouri St. 3

Stillwater, Okla. — Tatum Bell ran for 143 yards and a career-high four touchdowns on 21 carries as Oklahoma State beat Division I-AA Southwest Missouri State.

Baylor 10, SMU 7

Waco, Texas — Rashad Armstrong’s four-yard touchdown run on Baylor’s first second-half drive gave the Bears their first win under coach Guy Morriss. The Bears (1-2) had just 182 total yards, their second-lowest in a win since 1956.
