Wildcats want win in home opener

? Perhaps a change of venue will help Baker University’s football team win its first game.

The Wildcats will play host to Central Methodist at 7 p.m. today at Liston Stadium.

Baker running back Jon Reeves, a junior from Palestine, Texas, led the Wildcats with 124 rushing yards on 41 carries, including a second-half touchdown plunge from a yard out to cut Baker’s deficit to 28-9 late in the third quarter.

Senior quarterback Martin Updike also found the end zone early in the fourth quarter, after safety Ron Givan had given the ‘Cats the ball with an interception.

Updike, who completed 17 of 33 passes for 132 yards with one interception, couldn’t complete the comeback despite his 23-yard touchdown pass to Justin Cobb.

Central Methodist pulled out a baseball-like 6-3 victory over Avila Saturday when Anthony Morris connected on his second field goal, a 25-yarder with :03 left. CMC managed only 144 yards of offense, but the Eagles also gave only 170 yards to Avila.
