Sheriff’s officers seek information on hay fires

Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies need help solving some suspicious fires this week.

About 12:30 a.m. Thursday along the Douglas/Johnson County line, a sheriff’s deputy found 145 hay bales on fire.

The Eudora Township Fire Department responded to the blaze in the 1300 block of East 2350 Road.

Just a week earlier 20 hay bales went up in flames on a farm about eight miles southeast of Eudora.

Lt. Ken Massey calls both fires “suspicious in nature.”

The loss is estimated at close to $5,000.
