Wet weather on tap for much of the week

If you’re planning some outdoor activities Tuesday in the Lawrence area, the odds are in your favor — the rain will probably miss us.

However, wet weather is in the forecast Wednesday through Saturday, says Matt Sayers, 6News meteorologist.

“For the rest of today, the rain will stay to the north and we’ll see partly cloudy skies with temperatures topping out at 86,” Sayers said. “We still have a slight chance of rain today. I don’t think we’re going to see anything.”

On Wednesday, there’s a 30 percent chance for showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon, he said. Otherwise, it will be partly cloudy with temperatures in the mid-80s and southerly winds gusting up to 28 mph.

“Those winds are drawing us moisture, setting us up for a big rain event on Thursday and Friday,” he said.

On Thursday, be sure to take an umbrella because rain is likely, he said.

“The best chances are going to be in the afternoon, lasting off and on through Friday night,” he said.

The cloud cover and rain will keep the high temperatures in the upper 70s on both Thursday and Friday, he said.

On Saturday the rain should be moving out of the area. But it will be cloudy, he said.

Sunday, the sun peeks out, but a front will cool us down, with temperature highs being only in the 70s or possibly the upper 60s, he said.
