Bush says economy ‘starting to grow again’

? With the 2004 presidential race underway and Democratic hopefuls slinging criticism, President Bush was in Kansas City, Mo., on Thursday, defending his economic policy.

Bush, making his second speech in 10 days in Missouri, said the U.S. economy is “showing signs of promise.”

“Our economy is starting to grow again,” the president told a largely business-oriented gathering of 2,500 at Kansas City Convention Center. “Americans are feeling more confident. I am determined to work with the United States Congress to turn these hopeful signs into lasting growth and greater prosperity and more jobs.”

Several of the nine Democratic candidates for president have called for a repeal of all of President Bush’s tax cuts, while some propose repealing the tax cuts that favor the rich.
