Other teams

To the editor:

As a friend of a red/blue-blooded Jayhawk fan who got kicked out of his nearly 40-year season-ticket seats, I have a suggestion for all those other “pure” fans who aren’t going to any more KU games: Buy family passes for Lawrence High and Free State football!

Come and enjoy great games and super bands every Friday evening. For $45 per school you get plenty of football and a lot of old-fashioned Kansas fun and fellowship. Sit with the band parents or the football parents or even the students (if you’re really anxious to stand for the whole game). Sing the “Star-Spangled Banner,” clap with the fight song, sway to the alma mater without blaring speakers. Listen to the play-by-play and pick out your favorite player. Watch the band polish its show as the weeks progress. Buy your whole family hot dogs, drinks and popcorn.

For less than the price of tickets to one KU game you get quality, hometown Lawrence memories — and you always know what time the game starts! Support our local schools and let the new KU AD figure out how to generate the cost of his eye-popping salary some other way.
