Betty L. Friesen

? Funeral services for Betty L. Friesen, 75, Dodge City, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church in Dodge City. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City.

Mrs. Friesen died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003, at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City, from complications related to West Nile virus.

She was born Oct. 1, 1927, in Ottawa, the daughter of Ira D. and Christena Frieda (Merk) McDermott.

She grew up in Ford County, and graduated from Dodge City Senior High School in 1945. She attended Dodge City Community College. She worked as an optemetric assistant to Dr. L.E. Mock of Dodge City for 27 years.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was a former deacon and elder, in Dodge City. She also was a member of P.E.O. Chapter HM, Miss Kitty Quilters and Gold Wing Riders, all of Dodge City.

She married Kenneth Friesen on Jan. 19, 1947, in Dodge City. He survives, of the home.

Other survivors include two daughters, Sue Harrelson, Osage City, and Dena Friesen, Lawrence; one brother, Doral McDermott, Hutchinson; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A son, Gary Neal Friesen, died on Feb. 22, 1981.

Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Swaim Funeral Home in Dodge City.
