Carnegie Library’s future pondered

The Lawrence City Commission will have a discussion of proposed new uses for the former Carnegie Library building at Ninth and Vermont streets.

Background

A dozen organizations have applied to use the Carnegie Library building, which has been vacant since the Lawrence Arts Center moved to its new home on New Hampshire Street in 2002. The City Commission will begin determining a procedure that will select the next occupant.

  • Ordinance No. 7690, amending Chapter 3, Article 2, concerning animals at large and amending Chapter 3, Article 3, concerning procedures and requirements related to the ownership of dangerous dogs.
  • Ordinance No. 7691, permitting Douglas County Resolution No. HR-03-7-3 to apply within the city limits.
  • Ordinance No. 7692, establishing the quorum for the conduct of the Mechanical Code Board of Appeals as four.

Adopt on second and final reading the following ordinances:

  • Ordinance No. 7686, rezoning 0.595 acre from light industrial district to general commercial district, property located at 962 N. Third St.
  • Ordinance No. 7687, annexing 0.595 acre property located at 962 N. Third St.
  • Ordinance No. 7688, rezoning 0.827 acre from single-family residential district to light commercial district, property located at 1918 E. 23rd St.

Adopt the following resolutions:

  • Resolution No. 6486, authorizing general obligation bond authority for the Belle Haven stormwater improvement project in the amount of $200,000.

  • Approve continued operation of UPR-10-11-99 Community Drop-in Center, 944 Ky.
