Rains services
Services for Nancy Viola Rains, 95, Lawrence, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Day Funeral Home in Wellington. Burial will be in Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Wellington.
Mrs. Rains died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She was born June 8, 1908, in Cherokee, Okla., the daughter of James Wilson and Mary Jane (Rousseau) Summers.
Mrs. Rains was a homemaker. She had recently won a blue ribbon for tatting at the Blackwell Fair.
She married Boone Dale Rains on Feb. 10, 1926, in Winfield. He died Sept. 28, 1966. A daughter, Helen Lucille Rains, and a grandson also died earlier.
Survivors include a son, Buford Rains, Wichita; four daughters, Joy Holdaway, Wellington, Wanda Bookout, Blackwell, Okla., Mary Ellen Compton, Lawrence, and Nelda Parker, Westminster, Colo.; a sister, Mary Margaret Musick, Gunnison, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The family suggests memorials to First Free Will Baptist Church building fund, 1219 N. Plum St., Wellington 67152-3663.
