Defendant in murder trial to undergo evaluation

A Leavenworth woman accused of murder will undergo psychological evaluation at a state hospital, authorities said.

Catrina Wilson, 22, is charged with the felony first-degree murder and aggravated robbery of Charles Brown, 55.

Wilson’s court-appointed attorney, Gary Fuller, made a motion Monday for the evaluation.

County Atty. Frank Kohl has alleged that Wilson struck Brown in the head with a hammer as part of a robbery, and he died of his injuries.

City collects fines in amnesty program

More than 2,100 residents took advantage of Wichita’s amnesty program for traffic and parking violators, raising at least $115,900 in fines and late fees.

The program, which ran Oct. 20-25, allowed people with outstanding fines to pay them off without the usual $14-to-$25 warrant fee.

“It was a very smooth operation,” said Kay Gales, Wichita Municipal Court administrator. “People were brought into the board room, and we had them in and out within 15 minutes.”
